Description

Replica of canopic jars, "Klątwa faraonów" ("Pharaohs' curse") exhibition, Poland, 2008.
________

Explanation of the title: because sometimes you have to care about your inner beauty literally.
If you don't know what was the use of canopic jars, read the last paragraph below. Keep in mind that according to the egyptian beliefs, your body must've been preserved to lead a happy afterlife.
________

Translation of the explanations on the paper:
"Canopic jars, New Kingdom, XVIII dynasty, Amarna period.
We are not sure, whom these canopic jars belonged to; most common explanation claims they depict Nefertiti's heir regarding her relationship with Akhenaten - Kiya, whose fame didn't last long. Second and reasonably equal to first explanation says that canopic jars were originally made for Meritaten, one of Akhenaten and Nefertiti's daughters.
Although they were surely made in one of the best Amarna workshops, they were found in the Valley of the Kings, in the KV 55 tomb. It's one of the most mysterious tombs in the Valley. Things which belonged to queen Tiye - Akhenaten's mother were found there, as well as a mummy of a young man lying in a sarcophagus which surface cartouches identifying deceased were removed from. Most likely it was Meritaten's husband, pharaoh Smenkhare, ruling after Akhenaten's reign. But it's only "most likely".
Canopic jars were containing some mummified inner organs of deceased. Each organ was protected by one god and that's the reason why canopic jars had their stoppers in shapes of deities' heads: Imset with a human head was protecting the liver, Hapy with a monkey head - lungs; Duamutef (with a jackal head) was caring about a stomach and Quebehsenuef with a head of a falcon, was protecting intestines. All of them are usually called "the four sons of Horus". "
